Mykola Tomenko: Executive, Legislative and Judicial Public Authorities must become closer to the People at least for the Period of the Crisis
"The Resolution of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On Actions related to the Regulation of Certain Expenditures of the State Budget of Ukraine" comes into force on 1 January 2010", - stated Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in the program "Svoboda Slova" at ICTV Channel.
"To secure a fair system of social security in the period of crisis, one should not be guided by the principle of the Party of Regions to increase all the pensions and wages, but observe the principle, pursuant to which, one must assist the most socially unsecured categories of the population, saving funds at the expense of the most wealthy ones", - stated M.Tomenko.
Thus, the Resolution "On Actions related to the Regulation of Certain Expenditures of the State Budget of Ukraine" was adopted on 3 March 2009. The Resolution regulated the rate of wages, reducing its maximum amount by two times. However, only the Government reduced the wages by two times and curtailed the wages of the public authority officials by 20 per cent. The wages of the People´s Deputies, leaders of the National Security and Defense Council, officials of the President´s Secretariat, and other public officials failed to be reduced.
The Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems necessary to revise the matter of the so-called elite pensions, restricting their rate at least for the period of the crisis.
The Vice-Chairman believes that the matter should be revised, while scrutinizing the Budget for the next year. "Executive, legislative and judicial public authorities must become closer to the people at least for the period of the crisis", - stressed Mykola Tomenko.
